Hi all.

I am running water tests for the first timie cos I finaly set up my two tanks... So... What am I looking for, should it all be like for normal fish tak or I should keep an eye for something? I havent got the amonia test but if everything be ok than I shouldnt be scared of it, or should I?

Ammonia should be the first thing you test for, is your tank new or cycled? Do you have a filter?

Hi. I do not have a filter I change the water every week... So the test... Nitrite: 1; Nitrate: 50; pH: 7,2 no chlorine but quite hard water GH 21... I couldn't find tests for ammonia... And now I start to worry... My male have a pinkish tail... Well pinkier than his body... He is leucistic... And doesn't look happy, is a fussy eater, puke sometimes and now I start to wonder is this caused by ammonia.

Any advice?

The pinkness could be something as simple as activity and bloodflow or possibly ammonia burn.

Now when I look at the both... Male and female... They both got red tails... I guess I am freaking out
Female is the fat one... She just wont stop eating... ImageUploadedByTapatalk1352320257.984139.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1352320180.284559.jpg
Sorry for quality i toke pictures with mu phone...

Th first pic looks fine, but the male doesn't look quite so normal so perhaps an expert opinion would be great.

wouldnt it just be easier to test your levels?? I mean, this way you wouldnt be freaking about ammonia or other toxins, because you would know what levels they were at!

get an ammonia test and your nitrate readings are way too high, get a water change done and check links on tank cycling.

After visiting 7 so called pet shops didn't find any ammonia tests... Ordered some from eBay... In the meantime i will do water change again...

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
