Hello! I have a recently morphed salamander that is 2 inches long. It hasnt eaten for 3 weeks or so (not that im aware of) and was pretty skinny the last time I saw it. The salamander is a mole salamander so it borrows and I can't find it anymore in the tank. I have tried searching under all the decorations and substrate but found nothing. It is impossible for it to escape as there is a lid. I have a bunch of dwarf white isopods in there so maybe the salamander passed and they cleaned it up... any advice on what I should do?

They are great escape artist, if it has any access to the lid, and you are sure it isn’t in the tank it probably escaped the cage. They usually go to the lowwest pint in your house and to a moist area I.e. a sump. You probably would’ve seen a skeleton if it was “cleaned up”

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
