I know s.s likes to hide (in moss, under rocks) but has anyone ever encountered one that burrows? And when i mean by burrowing i dont mean digging a little hole in the ground and staying there but digging deep into the substrate? Is this behavior normal? I always thought the digging behavior to be relgated to the tigers...

In the wild they do especially during the warmer and colder months of the year

Normally they dont "dig", but use holes from other animals in the wood.

I agree to Uwe.
Have a look HERE; you can see a Fire Salamander "vanish" in his burrow (probably an old mouses´ one).
