Hi guys! My axolotl, dexter has some white thing in front of one of his gills and on his body. I think it looks like sand to me. But I am not sure…. Can you please help me identify if it’s fungus? or if it’s just sand?
in front of the gills looks like fungus where as the bits on the body look like sand, because of the type of sand that you have it can easily be mistaken for fungus and vice versa.
if there is a possibility of fungus use holtfreters solution + 0.2g/l magnesium (modified holtfreters), if you are sure your kh and gh is good then 3.5g/l non iodised salt can be used instead.
once the fungal infection has clear the modified holtfreter can be reduced to 50% by doing a 50% water change (same with the salt), by keeping a concentration of 50% modified holtfreters in the tank it will help prevent further fungal infection as well as other conditions that effect axolotls, if the kh gh is good then 2g/l can be used as a constant instead to reduce issues.
