Hello all,

Here are some photos i took recently on a newt hunt in the west of Scotland, along with Liam from this forum and a few esteemed colleagues. A good time was had by all and many beautiful specimens of Lissotriton helveticus and L. vulgaris were spotted (Although most of the ones I managed to photograph were the latter!)

The last photo is in keeping with the spirit of Juraj’s recent field trip post – we’re not quite as professional I'm afraid - a guy in socks and a plastic tub had to do!

Hi everyone,

I thought i'd stick a few photos online too. Sorry they're not very good, but hopefully they give a taste of the amazing newts we saw! In previous years we have only found Lissotriton helveticus at this location, hence why most of the photos are of L. vulgaris (the first time we have found it in this area!). I have included 1 photo of a female L. helveticus at the end (who was lovely) as well as one photograph of an egg we found!

Had a great afternoon - i love this time of year!

Liam.

Wow, what a beautiful bunch of animals...I'm not saying I don't love Notos, but if those were the newts native to my area instead of them, I wouldn't cry.

Liam is modelling a class three floating pontoon deck designed by Ralph Lauren featuring a genuine wooden walking surface and authentic Christian Dior metal boat rings. It goes great with accessories such as canal boats and passing swans*

*May not be true

It did however provide a great way to view the behaviour of the newts - we managed to get a fantastic view of behaviour such as tail fanning and the hunting down of daphnia!

Thank you for sharing, Mark and Liam. Looks like a sunny and relaxed amphibious afternoon.
