Hello, Im new to this site. Im from Perth Australia. I have a new axolotl and I am having a feeding problem. The first day I had him he ate a small portion of the frozen food that the shop gave me but that made too much of a mess and dirtied the water so we attempted to revert to the pallets. it has now been 5 days and I cant get him to eat a thing, no matter how long we hold the food in front of him there is absolutely no interest. How long will he survive without food and what can I do??? Thanks

:confused::confused::confused:

Hi Scott, welcome to the forum. :)

You might be better of to post such questions in the axie section of the forum as more people check there than here. But I think what are your water parameters? (PH/ammonia/nitrate/nitrite) And temperatures? Are they all normal? If your axolotl is stressed he may stop eating. But hmm, if your axolotl is used to the frozen food (if the petshop suggested it, then perhaps he is), it can take a while before your axolotl will eat pellets. To stop frozen food making a mess you can hand feed your axolotl and then use a turkey baster to get rid of any mess afterwards. What was the frozen food anyway?

It might just be that your axolotl is not used to pellets and doesn't know they are food so keep trying to feed him them (you could drop the pellets onto his head... that is how mine will snap at them). But I would recommend checking out your water to make sure it is ok and not stressing out your axie.
