So 2 weeks or so I was really concerned for my axie. He wasn't eating and the area around cloaca was becoming super swollen and slightly dark. Then I noticed he began to pass black sand granules (his substrate) which evidently was not fine enough to pass through him with no problem. For two days he passed the granules and now his swelling has gone down enormously. I believe hes almost completely passed them. Now my concern is that he spends almost all his time floating at the top, though he is capable of swimming down. When he does swim down his back end is still slightly lifted in the back end. What should I be looking out for as he recovers from the constipation? and should I be concerned about his floating? Is there anything I can do to help him recover safely?

I removed the sand as soon as I realized what had happened and I believe I'll begin using a feeding jar once hes eating again.

ohh, if it's to much maybe consider putting him in the fridge

I ended up fridging him for about 20 hours and he passed the rest of the sand, the swelling is virtually gone, aand he is no longer floating :) thanks!

PSA: Do NOT use Imagitarium black aquarium sand it caused my lil guy a lot of unnecessary pain
