Hi all,

I was just hoping someone might be able to help me sex my (eastern) lesser siren.

It's about ~10 inches long. I know the males are meant to have an enlarged forehead "bump" due to the larger masseter muscle, but I'm not confident whether mine quite rises to that level. I've been assuming female but wanted to get second opinions.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

sorry, I don’t know enough about sirens to weigh in, but I just wanted to look at it. They are so cool!! If I didn’t have so many axolotls already I’d love to get one lol

Unrelated but I am going to get 2 lessers that have been together in a 75 gallon and im putting them in a 125, wondering if you have any luck with some fish tank mates??

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
