I have 4 Tiger Salamanders. Pictured are 2 of my larger Tigers. The other 2 I have are maybe 5 or 6 inches and are too small and fast. I've read many articles but I'm not really sure what I have, but I'll take a swing at it. Also, I've noticed they look different. The guy I got them from said one came from out West from a friend, and the other he found here in Michigan. He didn't say which was from the West. Are they a different sub-species? If so, would they still breed if they were a pair?

I can take better pictures if need be.

My guess: Male
Roughly 11 inches

The other 2, I can't even guess when I look. They're so small, I can't really see anything. If I feel the energy to chase them I'll post some pictures.

Just a month ago I had 0 salamanders, now I have 4. They're addicting!!!

Also, this is the best forum, ever.

I agree on both counts. Your female is a fatty ;)

Welp, if I was correct,. the female died this morning =(

I'm extremely upset about this, I just got those 2 a few weeks ago. I can't even eat I'm so upset.

I wonder what the cause was. It's been warm in my room, about 82*F, but I keep frozen bottles in the tank to keep it cool. The tank temp ranges from 72-78*F depending how soon I can get cold bottles in there.

Only thing I noticed was her underside was red, like red arteries showing all over.
She was eating fine, but since I've had her, didn't move much.
The male is more active, and will even hunt crickets.

Well, maybe I'll post pics of my other 2 small Tigers, in hopes they are females. They are sooo much smaller though,. when I put them in my large tank with that big green male. the big male nipped at them. so I had to put them back in their tank.

I had never seen one like her, brown and yellow.

I really thought they were doing good too :(

I was able to snap some pics of the little ones. though it was a task. they are so small that I really can't tell but I'll give it a try. I can get better pics if needed.

My guess: Female
Roughly 6 inches long

My big male seems sad, although I'm sure it doesn't actually phase him that the female passed.

How long from the top pic of the large female, until she got sick and died?

And sorry for your loss.

As in, how long did I have her? Less than a month. When I got her, she was very inactive.

She died about 2 days ago.

Yea, its kinda crazy how attached you get to these creatures...at least I do.

I meant, what was the time frame from the time you took the pic to the time she died. You said she had a bunch of veins showing, etc. Yet in the picture she looks fine.

I have two salamanders I think are male and female, but it doesn't matter since I am not going to try and get them to spawn ever. And yes, they grown on you. My wife who doesn't like most slimy things loves the salamanders, she even stopped being afraid of getting bit by them, and now insists on feeding them.
