Hi,
What do you think about this terrestrial setup for 2.1 T. shajing? Do they need a bigger aquatic zone? I´m going to move them to a mainly aquatic setup on April or May to try the breeding after a dry and cold winter.

Thank you very much, I wish to have sucess in my breeding proyect ;).

The setup looks nice. You might want to provide a couple more hides for them, though. How damp is the enclosure? I have never kept this species, but from what other people have said they like to be able to choose how damp they are. You can do this simply by propping the tank up a little at one end and spraying mainly at the lower end. I think the water dish is probably large enough whilst they are terrestrial, and if you are going to use a different setup to breed them, it will be fine. You may want to use water spraying to simulate rain before they go into the aquatic setup, but there are other people on the forum who have experience breeding this species.

Good luck

Chris

Breeding success is possible but doesn´t seem awfully common.
Anyway i think it´s way too optimistic to expect them to breed this spring if you acquired them recently....they have enough to deal with. Specially if they are WC adults, you may want to concentrate on keeping them healthy first (it´s not uncommon for them to develop sores or other illnesses sortly after being purchased)...
If i´m not mistaken, this species is prone to skin problems due to inadequate humidity, so make sure they have good ventilation, and as Chris said, different options to choose from.

Hello Aitortxu.
Congratulations on your new newts
My Tylototriton shanjing have a wetter and a drier to choose from. A few years ago I had problems with excess moisture, never missing.
To play you must increase the humidity in late spring to simulate the monsoon. They do not fall under acuatica, courtship is land.
Excuse my English is very bad.
Good luck!

Hello

Congratulations.

This sp. it's very beatyful..... Last spring one newter friend breed this newt, but i no "stole" any babys..... today i think, i have a mistake....it's very beatyful, and one terrestrial setup, it's atractive....

Hi, the newts are more or less 1 year with me, I think they are ready to breed in May with the higher TºC, they are actually eating very well wild slugs after they were hibernate in a very cool (4ºC some nights) and dry (no spray in months) winter.
I hope to breed them this year, but I need the advices from experienced breeders. I would appreciate a lot.
I read some people breed this especie in a nearly fully aquatic tank with 20 cm water depth and a small terrestrial area, only for the mating season. But I´m very afraid my newts could drown in these conditions.
Thank you very much
