Illness/Sickness: She can't go to the bottom

Firstly, could you add a photo of your little axolotl so we can see the yellow spots please? Could you also provide one of the tank set up too?
I would follow Kaysies advice and keep her fridged for a few days. That way you will be able to monitor closely what she is eating and what she is passing. Offer her food, ideally small earthworms.
Below is a step by step guide to fridging, in case you haven't seen it.

thanks for that, have previously read it.
She had a massive poo when i first fridged her ages ago (3 days).
but last two times in the fridge (4 days and 2 days) her bowl movements don't increase in fact the water change on each day in the fridge was was as clear as when it first went in and that's what leads me to beleive that she is getting constipated. But have read that if they are constipated that they will refuse food. She doesn't have that problem beleive me. Am i not feeding her enough?
Opinon varies on the amount and type of food.
I'm thinking that the blood worms (1 small ice cube every second day) isn't agreeing with her.
I haven't fed her while fridging though, i've read that it's not a good ito do so while her metabolism is running slow.

You said small earthworms, how many should i feed her to maintain the every 2nd day schedule?

Do i stop feeding the bloodworms alltogether, or use them as a once in a while treat?

Photo's as reqested are attached

Once in a while treats are fine, I would remove those rocks mainly because they are very hard to clean properly

Those rocks are really an inappropriate size. I imagine she's probably swallowed one, and that's what's leading toher issues.

Agreed! No rock that isn't twice the size of their head should go into a tank- they are ridiculously good at getting themselves into trouble! As to the strip thermometer, they're pretty unreliable, so perhaps invest in a digital thermometer.

As to substrate, Bunnings have play sand for $9 a 20kg bag (often cheaper) which I've got on both my tanks (in the 6ft it's a cap over the soil :D) and which i've found works really really well for the axies- small enough not to cause trouble, but big enough they can spit it out should they get a mouthful).
And you can do the redecorating whilst she's in the fridge-I'd be leaving her in there at least a week or two (especially with the heat we've had recently!) so that her body has a chance to get rid of any of those stones and heal up internally. She looks like she's got enough weight on her that you shouldn't need to worry about feeding for the duration.

When you bring her out, do it over two days- get a chiller bag like the ones Wollies sells, then put in ice bricks which will need to be changed every 4 hours for the first 18 hours, then put one brick in, zip the bag up, and leave her until the air inside the bag reaches room temperature (measured with a digital thermometer), or else leave another 18 hours. Then float the fridging container in the tank for another hour, then let her out.

As to food, I'd be feeding when she's hungry. Every second day works well for some axies. Some prefer every four days (Bertie at the moment's been like that...), and some are gluttons who eat a bit every day (Molly tends to be like this), although where possible they need to have a break between feeding days (So maybe feed two in a row if she's hungry, skip one or two depending on how she responds).

Once your tank is redecorated (Btw, you in Sydney? There are some good places around to get some nice plants for your tank), chose a single spot for feeding. After a few days, she'll tend to go to that spot when she wants food. As to diet, bloodworms are okay, but not as a sole dietary source. Add in some earthworms (two or three- My Trouble who's of a similar size scoffs a 2-3 inch one very happily and then has something else as well :) ) A decent pellet (The one in the blue jar or (if the store has older stock) the purple jar with the yellow lid is very much a favorite for my lot.), if you've got space to breed them up, some red cherry or ghost shrimp and guppies as treats.
Keep your head up- she'll get through it!

I'd be interested in any recommendations for good suppliers of live aquatic plants in Sydney :)

Thanks for the brilliant guide to
de-fridging :D you made it sound simple! (Hope I never need it - but great to know!)

How can i tell if she has swallowed a rock?
So the recommendation is to fridge her for 7 + days.
Will this help her bring up the rock?

Any idea about the spots?

You can try to gently palpate her stomach to see if you can feel a rock. You can also try shining with a flashlight. This might be harder, considering her coloration. Fridging is not generally harmful and can continue indefinitely, as long as she's not losing weight. This should help pass a rock. Is she eating?

The spots look like normal coloration via the photograph. Do they look like part of the skin?

Yes her eating is fine, in fact she swims to her feed corner every time I walk past.

The spots arn't flakey or lumpy.

Those rocks are the size of a twenty to fifty cent coin, can she pass something that size?

I'll do my best to give her a light squeeze to try and feel for one. Should I do this during fridging so she is a little numb?

Fridging won't numb them. If she's not too skittish with handling, just hold one hand flat against one side of her to hold her still, and gently palpate with the pad of your ring finger against her belly. Here is a diagram of the gut to give you an idea of where you should be feeling. Go up from the bottom, not in from the side. It's important not to squeeze or use too much pressure (hence the ring finger), just gently palpate.

Unless it's a large rock, you probably won't feel it. X-rays would be better.

She's been in the fridge a week now.
She hasn't eaten in that time, more to the point she won't eat.

How long can she last without food?

There was no stone. She's thinned out a little bit, makes it easier to tell.

Can anyone recommend a good but cheap cooling unit for an aqarium?
