So i purchased my first axolotl about 2 months ago from a hobbyist on instagram and the poor thing arrived dead because of the temperature of the water being too hot. So the seller sent me another one and packaged it with insulation and styrofoam, an ice pack, etc. This one arrived perfectly and was super healthy and active.
He or she is doing very well and has grown probably around 2 inches in the past 2 months.
So i decided to try my hand at raising axolotls from the egg. Prepped everything at home.i bought( 8)6.7 qt containers with lids, brine shrimp eggs, set up a hatchery, bought daphnia and set up the culture outside in a fishtank, and then proceeded to buy the eggs off of another hobbyist on instagram. I ordered 30 eggs and i received them almost 5 days later. On arrival, the bottle they were in was extremely hot and the icepack had completely heated up. i had to remove 4 eggs because they were not developing. Now i know that because of living in south florida it is impossible for me to expect any live shipment to arrive unstressed especially if they were exposed to heat for long periods of time. But it seems that every few hours i am removing more and more eggs because they are becoming cloudy, more then half of the larvae have hatched at only 9 days old, and i feel very let down and pessimistic about the outcomes of these poor little guys. I have only seen about 3 or 4 of them actually wiggle around. The others seem to have abnormally shaped bodies, and seem to not have developed correctly.
Is there any advice on how to improve the survival rates of these little guys? I am planning on buying a larger batch of eggs and having them delivered through next day shipping and probably buying the eggs from a breeder or someone a little more experienced with shipping to my location next time.

It is expensive to ship properly. Mainly sellers do it on the cheap and the eggs and axolotls suffer.

I am just getting started as a pet owner again, but that sure does stink!! I sure hope you have better success next time.

Shipping eggs can be tricky. I've sent eggs of a few species around the UK and some travel better than others. Next day delivery makes a big difference.
I appreciate you are wanting eggs shipped to you, but below is a link on how to .

I've had eggs shipped to me, packaged in a bottle with newspaper padding, which was great. I think the key is just paying for overnight shipping (USPS can be super finicky!)
