Is shipping gravid newts a bad idea?
In this situation they can spend up to 5 days in shipping (3-5 is normal). I was under the impression that if the newts couldn't find somewhere suitable to lay eggs they can just expel them or reabsorb them? The females have just started laying yesterday.
Any input is appreciated.

Personally I wouldn't do it, not because I know it poses a specific danger but because it doesn't seem particularly fair to place an ovulating, aquatic newt in a situation where it has to stop suddenly. Being put in the post is stressful enough.

I imagine most of the "bloated egg retention death" posts on the forum are more likely to be bloat from organ damage than actual egg retention. My understanding is that unlaid eggs are re-absorbed.

Why not just wait a few weeks before shipping?

Thanks. I'm not doing it, I'm just interested to hear what people would say. They are being sent to me in a few weeks once they stop laying. I asked because I didn't want them to be sent, not because I wanted them to.
