Mochi is my first axie, so obviously I'm going to be concerned if she looks even a little off. Which brings me here.
I know genetics play a big role, but are her gills okay? They seem a bit small, which I know isn't immediately a sign of bad things ( they were about this size when I got her about 7 months back), but the real concerning thing to me is her filaments. The water temp and chemistry are all within range, but her filaments just seem a bit messed up. Is this just me? Or should I actually be worried?
Other than this, she's a seemingly happy, seemingly young axolotl.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
