Ok, so i have an axolotyl that got her head stuck behind one if my hides. It had a sharpe edge and she tore herself up a bit. I threw it away. I wasnt sure what to do with her and from what ive read, she was going to possibly get the gill fungus. Now, here we are a few days in, fungus is in full swing. I started salt baths about 2 days in. Shes not getting better. Yesterday she actually bled. Im assuming salt mix was too much. Im cutting back but im at a loss. I dont want to get anything for her because i know a lot of otcs can be harmful. I dont want to just go on a whim with pet shop advice and do even more harm. If i continue salt baths will this clear up? Thank you in advance!!

Hi Widget.
Sorry to hear that your axie had quite a bad accident. I don't have a great deal of experience with these situations, but I noticed that you hadn't got a response yet, and when you're in a panic sometimes that can be even more worrying.
I had a look on a site that I'd used previously and found this:
Axolotls - Health & Diseases
I hope that it helps.
Is your axie still eating? Apart from the wound & fungus is it ok? How is the water it's being kept in? Temp & parameters?
Please keep us updated on progress and we will try to help.
Best of luck.

What concentration of salt are you using and how often were the salt baths given? Have you followed the thread on salt baths on this forum? Here is a link to the thread and also another thread on fungus.

Has your axolotl been in a separate tub since this began or in your aquarium? Is your aquarium cycled and have you tested parameters? For best recovery, I would ensure optimum water quality so you may want to keep him in a separate tub for now so you can ensure water quality and monitor closely. Make sure you change 100% of the water in the tub every day using dechlorinated water of the same temperature. Keep your axolotl somewhere cool as the cooler temperatures will help the healing process.

Thank you guys for the responses. Sorry for the lack. Had an emergency today....ok so she has been seperated with daily water changes. salt baths were 1x a day but that was not helping at all. Someone suggested doing black tea baths. I started that last night and took her out of the fridge. She is not acting interested in food yet. its been about a week and a half or so since she last ate. I just did a tea bath, went back in to check on her about an hour after it was done and theres a quarter size of blood in the bowl. My heart is breaking for her and in this situation. I dont know what is right and nothing seems to be helping her.:mad::(
