Sick axie or just fat?

I agree this has the look of a length shortening genetic mutation which may not be otherwise associated with ill health. So for now abnormal but not sick or fat! Various dumpy breeds of fish with similar shape changes (mollies and goldfish) are available as fancy pet varieties.
 
The only genetic abnormality that I have come across that signs ill health is short toe syndrome. I have seen dwarf axolotls before and even in adulthood, they do not show any signs of health issues or lack anything a normal axolotl may have. I do assume maybe their lifespan MAY be shorter, maybe 10 instead of 15years? Lol.
I have also seen an axolotl that was the opposite, everything normal except a dwarf tail :p then I have nike who has genetic physical attributes as well but otherwise happy and healthy.
Axolotls always fascinate me with new things all the time, the only thing to do is watch it grow up through adulthood and right to the end of his lifespan and compared with a non-compact axolotl. Unfortunately with axolotls long lifespan I do highly doubt I will get to follow this unique axolotl right to the end of his lifespan. This is one reason why I kept my nike, I wanted to see how he grew up compared to the rest.
 
Thank you for all the replies guys! I'm glad to know he's not sick because I love him so much, or she..... He is showing signs of sexual maturity and it may actually be female. With my other 3 there is no disputing their sex. If he is a female I'll have to change little Howie's name..... Dwarfism sounds more accurate, I did some research and found some other photos that looked very much like Howie and apparently he will probably not grow any bigger then 6 inches due to the dwarfism, which means he is just about fully grown (he is 5 inches right now) if that information I read is correct.

I like Howie....lol....his bros call him stumps on the streets...lol and dang everyone needs to refer to him as a "lil lotl" instead of some derogatory dwarf or midget term.....She kinda looks like a VW bug to me lol

I'd bet it is a form of dwarfism. Poor pup probably picked up a double set of recessive genes that are not as visually apparent as color. It might not be a good idea to breed her for her own healths concern but captive lotls gen pools no pedigree of Arabian horses.
