we got feeder fish the other day and then all of a sudden they started losing their gills. we put them in the cellar in a 10 gallon tank where t is nice and cool for them. the temperature is right , the pH is perfect and so is the ammonia level. they aren't eating as much and they seem to be getting worse. we went to the pet store and asked the guy there about what might be wrong with them and he said that it definatly would not be an infection, but it could be cannibalism. they have never been violent towards each other and we really dont think thats it.

Feeder fish are notorious for bringing in disease and/or harassing axolotls. Do you have all the fish removed from the axie tank? Losing the gills and losing interest in food are both signs of sickness, not cannibalism. It's really hard to say what's causing it though. Keep them cool and hope for the best.
