Unhealthy Axolotl

Hi, I have a beautiful Axolotl, you'll have to forgive me, I know nothing about these gorgeous creatures as we have just recently inherited him so I am still learning.

About 10 days ago I noticed he had a swollen cloaca and something hanging from it, he was also quite unsettled, and after resarching online it sounded as though he was constipated so I put him in the fridge and within hours he had started to lose some of it and it appeared that it was the exo skeleton from the worm that he'd been given a few days before.

Over the next few days he lost more and more waste but the trouble is ten days on he still has something protruding from his cloaca and is extremely swollen.

On advice from the pet store I attempted to reintroduce him to his tank last weekend but this is only served to unsettle him even more so I put him back in the fridge and this is where he still is.

Can anyone give me any advice as to what to do next? I am trying to get a decent photo to upload but am having trouble, mainly because I am not confident in handling him.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Natalie

Re: Unhealthy Axolotl

Hi, could you describe what it looks like? He may be a male and depositing sperm packets

Re: Unhealthy Axolotl

Could you place him in a clear plastic container with water and then take a photo from underneath? Maybe it's a large piece of gravel that it's having trouble passing.

Regards Neil

Re: Unhealthy Axolotl

Hi, thank you both for your replies. I have taken some photos, hopefully they are clear enough and I will figure out how to upload them now. He (I think Manny is a male..) has been losing cotton like substance for the past 2 weeks and for the last few days appears to have something that appears to almost look like a blister that is going in and out of him but never detaching...

He has now gone 2 weeks without eating :-(

Re: Unhealthy Axolotl

I have created a photo album called Manny, hopefully this will show you the problem we are having

Hi All,
I posted a few weeks ago about my Axolotl Manny who appeared to be constipated, was really agitated, floating and not eating.. I have had him in the fridge for over three weeks now with no change. He is passing stuff but continues to have something hanging from him - I have created a photo folder titled Manny to show you what I mean.
He now hasn't eaten in a month..
Can anyone give me any advice as to what to do?
Thanks,
Natalie

Judging by what I see in the tank (blue stones) I would say many are in the gut and are not passing. If the fridge is not working to allow the passing of the stones you may need to seek a vets help. For the cloaca to be that huge he/she must really be trying to pass something.
