Hi Guys,

Have an axalotl that isn't in a good place right now. Over the last couple of months she has been getting 'dirt' on her body (albino in colour), which I assumed was just dirt from the tank but when I touch the dirt it feels quite stickyand she does not have her usual slime coat on these parts. It is more or less over her whole body. Over the last week she has looked weaker, is floating to the top, and tonight she has started to gasp for air above the tank quite desperately. She looks a lot more pale (albino but usually more golden) her gills seems smaller and a lot darker and her body she has lost a lot of weight. In addition you can see a lot of veins on her you could not see before. I have changed the water in the tank 1/3 today and added API stress zyme as well as a primer tonight. I have 2 other axalotls that appear unnaffected. I have attached a picture of the underside of her, though the top doesn't have the sticky substance as I rubbed it off today. Have I changed anything recently? Haven't cleaned the tank as much as I should and a couple of months ago put some aquatic snails in the tank to eat any algae, there's quite a few of them now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know what to tell you but you can browse this section:
Scroll down to 'Health and Illness'.
