Hello. Sorry for the long post, but trying to be thorough. I have been getting helpful information reading the different posts, but I'm now at a loss. I have had 1 lucent axolotl for several years, so far with no issues. Since then, I have purchased 2 natural/black ones, 1 that died within a few months and this one for about a year. I had him in a 20 long, with no substrate. I thought this might be why his water is always cloudy, no matter how often I changed it. I finally put the 2 axolotls together in the other axolot's aquarium, water started turning cloudy, and the dark one looked like it was getting a fungus. I tried refrigeration, salt bath, tea bath, then quarantine tank with 100% water changes. Slime is now off, but this is what he has now. I will show pictures of what came off and what he looks like now. Any help would be great.

Can you upload the photos? They aren't attached on this one yet. Did you cycle the tanks, and do you have a test kit?

I have been trying to upload pictures, but it hasn't let me yet. I will keep trying. All the parameters are fine, and my one axolotl shows no signs of issues, it is just the black one.

Images of my sick axolotl. Fuzz seems to have disappeared from his body, but has part of the top of his tail missing and open wounds.

I also found these in my tank, which I have never seen before. It doesn't mean they weren't there, I just didn't notice them until today. My axolotl will only eat frozen bloodworms, so thought this was a leftover bloodworm, until it moved. Can anyone tell me if this a tubifex or Camallanus? They bury themselves in the sand and stand straight up when poking out of the sand.

Oh that's not a good looking wound at all! Do you think the wound could be a bite from the other axolotl? Bites are really common, even with ones that get along really well. Check that you have plenty of hides for both and keep their feeding up.
Tub this one and do tea baths. This should help it heal. Change the tub water completely every day so there is no build up.
I have no idea about the worms, keep an eye out to see if it is coming from it's cloaca. Hopefully someone else will jump on who knows more!
Let me know how it all goes :)

Hayley. Thank you for your response. It was not a bite from the other one. This spot is were the slime/fuzz was located. When it finally came off, there was a dark substance, which I am assuming was his flesh. Same as with the spot on the top of his tail. Since I noticed the slime,he has been refrigerated, as well as in a salt and tea bath and now a separate tank with no substrate and I do a 100% water change. Hoping the self-healing kicks in quickly.

everything about this is screaming Columnaris to me, from that worm to the sores to the mysterious death of the other axy

please act quickly and follow this guide https://www.caudata.org/forum/showthread.php?t=108353

if funds are tight Furan-2 is the one thing to buy, i highly recommend keeping furan-2 and methylene blue on hand in the future as they can treat most axolotl illnesses.
(furan-2 is a combination medicine against gram-negative and gram-positive infections)

you should also treat the other axolotl since they shared a tank, it can take over a month for symptoms to show
