I have two axolotls, a leucistic male who is about a year and a wild male who is about 8 months
The wild male recently had what I suspected to be a fungal infection (white fluffy stuff on his tail) and his eyes were quite cloudy. He also Couldn't keep his tail end down but didn't seem bloated or constipated at all. I fridged him and treated his with salt baths for 3-4 days when cleared up the fungus and he seemed I to be not floating so much.
Whilst he was in the fridge I also treated the other male fungus and thoroughly cleaned the tank.
From the day I took the younger male out neither have them have eaten, they are both back in their tank now, I have tested the water for everything( all coming back at good levels), their temp is 17-18 degrees Celsius, theyre on sand so they can't have swallowed any objects. there's also good filteration and aeration in the tank.
I've tried a variety of different foods and they still haven't eaten anything, it's been nealy 9 days since their last reed and I'm very very worried!!
The smaller male is looking very skinny and his eyes still seem a little cloudy. He can't keep his tail end down when he swims so he's hiding a lot. I'm not sure if maybe he's bloated from lack of food so maybe gases re building up? But the older male isn't floating he just seems very inactive and shows no interest in food.
I've called my old college, one of my tutors was a herp specialist and suggested bloat, impactation or constipation. She also suggested force feeding but I'm too nervous for that I think id hurt them!
Has anybody got any advice or ideas of what could be going on or what to try to get them to eat?! Anything would be helpfull.
Thank you
