Sick Betta Fish

My mother's betta fish has been swimming crookedly and unable to catch food pellets. She's convinced it's going to die, but I hope to change that. Any suggestions?

Hi Schmiggle.

It could be a swim bladder problem.
What are the water parameters? How is the betta swimming? (upside down, on it's side, sinking to the bottom, etc)
I also keep fish and do have a plakat betta, but it might be worth having a look somewhere like here to find someone with more specialist knowledge.
