hi... im new here so forgive me for my noobness or anything...sorry, i didnt see this forum down in the list earlier so i posted this thread in the general topics forum.

i need some help with my newts.theyre not eating (i feed them frozen bloodworms) and theyre not as active as usual.and they spend most of their time on land instead of water. (they usually spend most of their time in water).

can someone please advice me of what is the problem and what to do

Hi Adrian, we'll help if we can.

Species of newt?

Temperature?

Also... any recent changes? Tank overhaul, or higher temperature in the room? New tankmates?

i have 2 newts. one's a oriental fire bellied newt and the other is a japanese fire bellied newt. temperature is 27 degrees celcius.

i just seperated them because i was thinking they might be stressed out by each other because my oriental tried to bite off my japanese's leg about a week ago.

are newts sensitive to noise? if they are, thats probably the problem because i drum in the same room as my newts.but they've been coping with it for the two months that i had them.

The biggest problem is probably the temperature. 27C (80F) is very hot for a newt.

oh...i seperated them already...and the temperature in my country (malaysia) is always around 27*C so cant do much...the japanese firebelly is ok already but the chinese firebelly still isnt eating...

Regarding the temp, there are LOTS of tricks you can use to lower temps. For instance, move them to the coolest room of your house, keep coldpaks around the tank. shade the windows that recieve morning and hot afternoon sun.

beyond these, buying an airconditioner or evaporative cooler will help not only your pets, but yourself, stay comfortable.

oh ok...thanks...my japanese firebelly is fine already but my chinese firebelly is still crapped up...hasnt eaten for 4 days already...
