Sick, skinny axolotl... HELP!

What kinds of food are you offering? Try leaving part of an earthworm with him overnight in his tub and see if that entices him. Ask if you can increase the temperature of the fridge slightly. This usually doesn't pose a problem for food, but may help your little guy to have more of an appetite, if he was a little bit warmer.

Mainly live earthworms cut in half. But he just backs away when i offer them so i have also tried little pieces of beef heart and pellets.
I took his container out of the fridge and let the water slowly heat up as i got my tank temp down to 19. When his water got to 19 i put him back into his tank to see how he would cope.
He swam straight into the corner and is now hanging nose-first off a plant (as he used to)
I will try feeding him again once he has settled in.
If he seems stressed ill try fridging him again.

Hopefully this works. Just know that a cycle of fridging/warming/fridging/warming will be just as stressful as being too warm.

soooo... i have an update on my little Guiggs!
i turned the fridge up and its on between 10 and 12 degrees.. to see if he would eat.. no luck! so i started force feeding him 2 days ago with a syringe.
i have been chopping up 2 pellets and mixing with dechlorinated water and feeding him that 3 times a day.
iv tried hand feeding to see if his appetite is back but he still wont eat so ill continue to force-feed... he doesnt seem to mind it at all.
the first few times he spat half back out like he was regurgitating but im sure half stayed in him which is a good thing. this is why im feeding 3 times a day!
he is starting to move around a bit more but doesnt seem to have put on much weight yet.
he did his first poop today!!!! half of a worm came out and the rest was a greeny brown blob... but nowhere near a big as the ones he used to do.
im hoping he is on the right track as iv tried pretty much everything to get him better and i hate seeing him like this!

I'm glad the forcefeeding hasn't been too stressful! Best of luck to you; We're all pulling for you guys!

Good job! Fingers well and truly crossed for you both :)

Hey,

Green poop is a typical sign for a flagellate infection (I don't know if that's the right word nor if the spelling is right). That would need an antibiotic treatment (metronidazol for instance).

Thought i would give another update..
Guiggs is still in the fridge at 12 degrees.
Still being force fed mushed pellets twice a day and not bothered by it!
I noticed when doing so some comes out his gills?? is this weird??
I also contacted the fish doctor in perth to see what else I could do.. he was very expensive and all he could offer was anabolic steroids to fatten Guiggs up.. he also recommended I give him away to someone who has an aquarium they can control the temp on as I simply cannot afford to purchase a chiller.
So i am passing on that idea and keeping him in the fridge.
He did another poop today!! this time it was dark brown in colour (same colour as he used to) so im guessing this is a good sign :)
still quiet skinny but moving around more and reacts when i open the lid of the container and comes up to see whats going on!

Stuff coming out of the gills is normal. They have a gill-slit behind their gills, remnant of their ancestral state.

At 12 degrees, your fridge is a perfect temperature. Definitely keep on what you're doing! Once he puts on a little weight, and starts eating on his own, you can try slowly working on getting him back in his own tank.
