Ok....so I got this little guy and here is his thread and pics up till now.
http://www.caudata.org/forum/f46-be...eneral-discussion/101820-new-skinny-baby.html

I am really worried about it.
She ate a worm last night and when offered a chunk today her suction? If that is the correct word was really weak. She is not very active and has yet to take any more food.
Edit: she did eat what was offered after checking again.

When she swims its always to one side and wabbly...she appears to not be able to use her back legs very well.

Her stomach is rounder than before....and she had passed some blue stones yesterday.

Her mouth is always partly open.

Maybe i just need to give her time but im super worried!

Please help!

First of all, I believe that she is a purple... a unique variety of wild type. She looks like she is severely malnourished. May have a type of axolotl rickets.
Just make sure she gets the best water, food, everything. Keep the stress low, and hope for the best. Keep us updated :)

She does look very malnourished and I can understand that you are worried about her. I second Bette's advice. I think just offering you the best care you can by keeping her in good quality water, providing the most nutritional foods you can offer and keeping stress down to a minimum is really all you can do. With some TLC and proper nutrients she will hopefully gain some strength and will start gaining some health. Keep going and hope for the best. She is in good hands and you have given her the best fighting chance. Looking forward to seeing some positive updates ;)

Thank you both..im just so anxious hoping for the best, it has only been 2 days so...its a waiting game.

How offten should I offer her food?

She had blood worms the first night and found a left over worm from my adults the next day..she sat around with it partly out of her mouth for a few hours till she could swollow it all.
today ahe at 1/2 inch chunk of a small worm...its in the pics of her today.

So far she has eaten once a day and as you can see from the pics has a rounder belly for it.

My two adults came to me healthy...and even then I was anxious and nervous that everything was ok.

I would offer her as much as she would like to eat and maybe twice a day? smaller meals more often are probably more beneficial than larger meals less often if that makes sense. If she will only eat once a day though, that is ok. Once a day is better than nothing and if she is improving in body condition that is a good sign. I would just keep doing what you are doing :)

Look at that smile....also she seems to have a forked gill.

Sorry to bump this thread so much But i dont have any other place to post..

So she took pellets today!
I broke small sinking carnivore pellets and she sucked one up and ate it..and is currently "hunting" the others in front of her!

I don't mind the bumping at all :) I am enjoying the updates! Good to hear she is doing well so far. It is a promising start that she is eating and has an appetite. Keep it up :)

This is her today...she has several forks to her gills!

She would not take pellets today and I got home to late to get her worms but she ate a bunch of blood worms from my hand, she is so personable!

Something is definitely "off " about her cute little face

There is an odd shape about her face (and whole body in general). I would say it is likely a result of the severe malnutrition she has been subjected to in the past. I do think she has a bit better body shape to her though.

Take care with the food on the sand. If she eats the food directly off the sand she may accidently consume some sand.

Keep going and hopefully she will keep going in the right direction :)

I am working on finding a dish to feed her from in the sand but for now I am hand feeding her, the pellets were only on the sand for a few mins before I pulled them out.

Her body shape does look better to me as well....its making me worry a little bit less.

Hopefully she will be able to fully recover...i have noticed as well that is is not just her face but most of her that has a bit of an odd shape.
Do you have any idea if she has a chance if looking more normal with good nutrition? (not that I would care for her any less she)

I would hazard a guess that with proper nutrition she could become more normal looking. But I guess it is just a matter of time and getting the nutrition she needs before you get a better idea. You are doing a great job though so she has a fighting chance :)

Thank you so much!

I was looking threw my fish food...could I feed her frozen brine shrimp?

I think they foul the water pretty quick as they seem light and float everywhere.Axi doesn't look too strange from above..just more food etc and no doubt he will be one happy little guy!

I would stick with earthworms and pellets as these will give her the best nutrition. However if she won't eat those the bloodworm is better than nothing and probably a bit easier to deal with than the brine shrimp.

Crazy weekend...I didnt see her much and with all my worry I have opted to remove her from the 20g and in to a half filled 5 g tank bare bottom with some java moss and a small log to hide in..

She has passed another blue stone and seems to have fungus on her hip...so daily 100% water changes from here on out and I can keep an eye on her output/imput a little better.

No poo in her new setup yet, ..she is refusing pellets but will take a few tiny worms...she will take nearly an entire qube of blood worms..so I put worms in the tank in the morning...remove any leftover when I get home and drop in some blood worms giving her a few hours to eat before doing her 100% water change.

If the fungus spreads...what is the recomended?
