Anyone who's seen my posts before will be relieved to hear that I was FINALLY able to treat the floating problem in my ~2 month old axolotl. Lieutenant Dan no longer floats on the top of the tank, I switched out their food for bloodworms a few weeks ago and started competing 100% water changes to keep their small tub clean. They haven't floated in over two and a half weeks! Hallelujah!

That said, I am now facing a different problem. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much about axolotl larva (there seems to be limited resources about specifics online) and I'm a bit concerned that he/she may be stressed or sick. My axie has become sluggish over the past few days and hasn't been eating as much, though it doesn't appear to have noticeably curled gills and certainly doesn't have a curled tail. How much movement is usual in an axolotl larva? Am I just being paranoid, or do I have a right to worry?

Symptoms:
(1) Sluggish, remains in one part of the tub most of the time, used to explore/move around.
(2) Eating less, does not yet look starved. I offer food 3 times a day.
(3) Doesn't swim away quickly when startled, will swim at a moderate pace until an inch or two away then rest.
(4) Looks normal. No curled tail, no red spots on the skin, no damaged gills or limbs.
(5) Used to hide in rocks. Currently prefers to sit in one spot, may or may not be under a rock overhang.

Size/Parameters:
Water: Daily 100% changes, too small for a cycled tank.
Size: 1.5 inches, has grown front legs.
Temp: Fluctuates, no AC in the apartment at present (gotta' love student housing,) never above 68°. Can change from 62-68° in a day, I try to keep it at 62-64°.

try and keep the temperature more stable if you can, axolotls at that age are very movement orientated so live food is required ie.. bloodworm, brineshrimp, although young are more active during the day than adults they are still mainly nocturnal so most of the moving around is done at night.
some axolotls are just very placid.
