This year my elderly neighbour decided to plant a vegetable patch FULL of cabbages, but 5 weeks ago he was moved out into sheltered accommodation. Since then the property has remained vacant.
We watched with interest the first cabbage white butterflies arrive and the caterpillars start to appear. ..the last few days they have consumed a good half of the crop.
Yesterday I noticed them move away...climb the walls of the house and start to cocoon them selves in any space they can find.... My daughters bedroom seems rather attractive to them!!. I have just spent the last hour removing them.
Needless to say I need to do something with what ever remain on the plants, I am loathe to resort to chemicals as I feed my axolotl with worms/ woodlice and slugs from the garden. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do?..there are literally hundreds of them!
