Small Fungus

So I came home after 2 days and noticed a fungus on one of his gills. I had noticed a small little fungus growing on one of his other gills about a week ago and I cleaned his tank, did a small water change, and it ended up going away, and now it's back!

I've removed him from the tank because it looks bad for that one gill, but I have a picture and would like to know what else I should do.

Is there some sort of remedy other than just keeping him cold and in 100% changed fresh water in his container?

as for now it's just on the middle gill, hopefully it does not spread further, honestly the rest of the gills look fluffy!

Ideally I don't want to fridge him (which I guess is not necessary for salt baths, but just to make sure), but I did but a cold pack next to his container, and will rotate them out keeping the water a bit cooler than his tank. i don't really want to slow his metabolism down if I can help it. At least it's small and only on one stalk, but hopefully this is going to help.

I've seen some threads where people were saying bad things about salt baths, but if they're recommended I will do it.

Update: It appears to be a little different than before, maybe getting better? Hard to tell. Definitely still there. I have been doing salt baths though, his apetite and energy seems a little decreased which is concerning. He's never had to be coerced into food. Got me worried a little. Especially since I'm not fridging him. Should I be worried?

Note: I'm not sure if I can fridge him because I don't have a spare fridge that would be a safe temperature for my axie.

He might be a little stressed from the salt baths and also the fungus. Fridging is recommended but it's not a must. As long as he has cool clean water it will help his recovery. I can't see the photo but hopefully it will be gone soon and he will be back to normal.

While I can't load your second picture, I don't see any fungus on the first pic.

I see a gill that has some damage and may be atrophying. Unless you see actual fungus, I wouldn't use salt baths.

I'm pretty sure it was a fungus, in the first picture which it was surrounding his entire gill and now after the salt baths it has progressed back to the 2nd picture which I guess people can't see and today it's almost gone! I did salt baths too because I noticed a white fungus looking thing on another gill stalk that about a week ago I was concerned about, and then I look a week later and then this gill had a worse looking thing on it! I figured it wasn't just damage on that one gill, especially since there is not much in his tank that could cause damage other than himself

He seems to be doing better, and I'll probably stop the saltbaths in a day or two.
