I got some from the petshop, i took them home and opend the bag, and i almost threw up with the smell!! It smelt like a rotten egg !!!PHEW!!! I put them in rainwater, and that went brown very quickly, so i changed the water again, and they still stank. I have done about 6 waterchanges and they still smell like bad egg. They are all alive and look healthy but they smell bad!!!!! Is this normal? I have not fed em to my axies yet.

I'm sure the axies will appreciate them (as they hunt by smell!) Some of the live bloodworm I've collected before from the guttering don't stink but the rotting vegetation they cluster round themselves does (it may be similar).

smell

Sarah, i find that too with bloodworm sometimes, they can smell quite strongly. I find keeping them in a container in the fridge in fresh water helps, just refresh the water daily.

With regards to smelly blackworm it could be a result from being packaged for a period of time, and the food they may have been consuming.

Keep them refrigerated and rinsed (with refrigerated water). The blackworms I get do NOT normally smell bad - I would have to put my nose right up to them to smell anything. So even though the worms are still wiggling, I'm a bit concerned that they could be going bad. I would keep rinsing them for at least 24 hours before deciding whether they are OK to use.

i fed my adults a small amount of the blackworm lastnight, this morning they both look very unwell, ive taken them out of the tank and put them in seperate containers and into the esky. Im going to do a 50% water change and leave the tank for a week, then do a 20% change and leave it for a week. I think im going to stick to pellets and bloodworm.
