Something's wrong with my axy's tail

The skin at the end of the tail has gone clear with red veins running through it. Any ideas? Is there something I can do to help Zeus?

Does he have any tank mates?

Also what are the parameters of your tank? temp, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph

He has no tank mates, he did but we rehomed the tank mate around a month ago. As for the rest of the information I'm not sure but I've kept these guys for months with no trouble. I've moved his tank temporarily until i clean his main tank out. He's always kept in water at room temperature. He's currently in a much smaller based tank but his usual one is around 50 L and is quite long. I know that probably doesn't help much. He's fed on Salmon pellets, earthworms and oxheart as a treat.

Looks more like sloughing skin than anything else - whats your temperature like? It could be an injury though, that picture isn't too clear.

Until you can test your water you won't be able to figure out if it's water quality or something else.

There's red veins running through it. I understood sloughing skin to be dead skin? Perhaps his former tank mate bit him.

Maybe the tail is growing out? It can't just be dead skin; dead skin doesn't have veins in it. The way it's looking at the moment, I would hazard a guess that his former tankmate bit the end of his tail off and it's growing back.

Someone else suggested that to me. Im pretty sure now that's the case but will keep an eye on it anyway. Thanks for everyone's help.

I'm starting to feel relieved I rehomed the other one.
