Spotted Salamander questions

Hi,
I just purchase a spotted salamander for my 7yrs is okay for her to pet him? if yes how often? Is this is a great pet to have? How often do they eat? I was told he is about 3months old.

Hi Jacqueline, Spotted sals in my opinion aren't a very good pet for a seven year old to have...they're not a "petting" kind of animal at all.
It'll be fine to feed it about three times a week.

They can be kept like tiger salamanders. Just feed them smaller food items

And no do not pet them. Amphibians have relatively delicate skin which can be damaged by petting or handling.

I need help my salamander is not eating I just purchase him on wednesday and I was told to feed him on friday wax warm because he did not want to eat crickets but he is not eating I do not know if I'am doing something wrong help

Sometimes it takes a new salamander some time to get settled and start eating. How large is the salamander (this will affect what kind of food it is able to eat). What kind of tank setup does it have? Does it have places to hide?
