Spring Water

Wondered what views were on the use of Spring water instead of matured tap water?

2)
Also, since all filters create vibration or movement of some degree, how about a bare bottom tank with no filter, live plants/ moss balls and Hoover the tank daily with an aquarium vacuum to ensure nothing is rotting. I figured the only ammonia source would then be Axolotl pee :blush: Which surely the plants could handle.
Suppose one would have to try this method and water test to get an answer but just wondered what thoughts were.
I like the idea of no filter so that the water can be as still as a natural lake/pond.

Bottled spring water can be used for Axolotls, but check the details for the water chemistry of the brand of water you choose.

As for filters, the vibration and movement won't affect your Axolotls. If the water flow is particularly high from certain types of filters you can just put something in front of the water output to minimise the flow.

Filters provide the best filtration, and provide a place for masses of nitrifying bacteria to colonise.

Hi Oddish and welcome to the forum. :happy:
I tend to use dechlorinated tap water. I don't know how expensive using bottles spring water would become when you factor in water changes etc.
I also have filters in both of my cycled axolotl tanks. I face the spray bar towards the glass and it doesn't seem to bother them. If you don't have a filter you will have to make sure that you d regular water changes, but there are quite a few people who keep their axolotls like this and as long as the water parameter are kept at acceptable levels then the axolotl will be safe and happy.

You do need to be careful when choosing the spring water to make sure it is suitable for use but with the right selection, spring water can work well. But I would only use spring water if my dechlorinated tap water was not suitable.
