I just picked up a 40 gal. long (36 x 18) as well as an expensive stand for it. Got it home, and was reading the side of the stand box, turns out the dimensions are 35.6 x 19.6. So it's wide enough, but it's .4 inches too short on the long. Is that going to be an issue? I had a bear of a time trying to find a stand for this stupid thing, I'd really rather not have to return it and look for another. But I absolutely will not use it if I run the risk of breaking my tank.

I plan on putting supports under the glass portion of the bottom of the tank (foam board, I do it on all my tanks) for some added support. But is having that much of the frame unsupported going to be an issue?

You should be fine if you place a plywood board in between the tank and the stand. Since the tank only hangs .4 inches off the stand, the plywood doesn't need to be super thick.

And I spray painted my plywood black to match the stand I have. Worked great.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely look into that. Just have to get a good measurement and he'd to the hardware store.
