Strange arm placing. Advice needed!

Hello!

My leucistic male does really strange thing with his left arm. He puts it along his body and twists it all the way so his fingers touch the fin on his back. Then he swims like crazy trying to take it down but cant. It seems like the arms lock itself in that position. Once I tried to help him and gently pushed it down, but it fell stif like it was muscles contraction. He swims like that for an hour or two bouncing of everything. And than it goes away for couple of days.

The arm seems to be a little bit swollen/bigger than the other one. He seems to be in constant distress, doesn't eat like others, is really quiet and calm. When I got the three of them they were all in a bad state but he seems to be recovering the slowest. He lives with a female on 80 cm tank. She is more active, eats well so is a bit bigger, not longer, just fatter, she eats all while he at some point refuses to eat more.

So axolotls fans and fanatics please give me some advice.

I will post pictures and movie as soon as it happens again.

Mine does the same usually when hes resting its never seemed to bother him and when he starts to move again he puts it straight back to normal dont think this helps but maybe reassures that ypur not only one? X

Should really have read your whole post before i replied haha. If it still keeps it like that when swimming and seems distressed i have no idea sorry hun x

No worries.

Maybe somebody will know. It is getting worst. He stops using that arm altogether. After the "attack", it used to go back to normal, now he is just avoiding using it. He is clearly not happy about it and I do not know how to help him...

Have you read the thread Nikki71 has started, she appears to have a similar problem to you, perhaps you could compare notes/degrees of wonkiness?

The consensus seems to be if the injury/deformity doesn't seem to be causing any pain then leave it alone and wait for the super healing powers to kick in, if there is pain then try and consult a vet.

I'd link the thread if I could figure out how to but I'm hopeless with technology

Snipping? No no no... I had to do it once, as the arm was rotting and falling of (not this axie). In dis case do not know will it work as it seems to be problem with the shoulder area... Time to find a proper vet i guess as the little dude is in discomfort... Or do you think fridging will help?

Personally I don't think fridging will help but if he's eating well and doesn't seem underweight you could try for a couple of days. The cold may help relieve some pressure on the joint or relax the muscle if it is there but I haven't heard anyone treat an axolotl with fridging for such a problem (it isn't a very common one!) I think if you feel he is in that much discomfort seeking a vet is the way to go, even if in the end it's just to put your mind at ease.

He is not eating well... As i mentioned earlier he pukes quite a lot and is a fussy eater... Week ago i put him in separate tank to see what is what and as he have been eating... He hasn't pooped for whole week... So... I am thinking of fridging anyway if he does not poop for another couple of days.
