Hi everyone,
I have 2 axo’s Lucy and Jeff.
Jeff has recently had an impaction and has been fridged which has solved this however he also has fungal infection on his toes.
We have brought him back up to room temp and kept him quarantined and started tea baths but he is super stressed and I am worried about constantly moving him between quarantine tub and a tea bath!
I really just want to put him back in the main tank and leave him be but know this is not a good idea! Any ideas on how to try and destress him during this anti-fungal treatment?

I have no expirience, but i'd suggest getting him used to your hands and putting food in the tea bath, so he assosiates it with something good. I don't know but this worked on my dog for his baths hoping it'l work for your axie.

[used this on one of my axies when they were being moved to the central tank and getting adjusted to my other axies. I have 3 currently, all males.]

Why aren't you keeping your lotl in the tea bath? I find that covering th tub with a towel to make it dark helps my lotl chill a bit. Also what is room temp? Maybe room temp is too high therefore stressing the lotl mabye? If its just a speck of fungus maybe try salt bathing him. Would recommend finding a video on how to do it. I would usually try salt bathing before fridging but Idk.

Also i saw some person use a cotton bud to remove some of the fungus while salt bathing the lotls, mbe worth a try? kinda reminds me of removing leopard geckos stuck shed hehe 😂

Thanks @Egghead in haven’t been leaving him in the tea bath as it seems to say online anywhere up to an hour but not to leave too long? Can I leave him longer?
Fungus seems to be shifting but it’s a slow process :-(
Room temp is 18 Celsius so cool enough for the axolotl and room is pitch black at the moment to reduce stresses!

hmm, yea i was wrong u shouldnt leave him for too long in the tea bath, maybe try salt bathing?

a constant low level of salinity helps to prevent/remove fungus, sometimes the infection can be more aggressive though and may be better treated with methyline blue and acriflavine.
axolotls can be kept in water that contains tea but it tends to be a lot weaker than a tea bath due to the acidity.
if at any point your axolotls require tubbing use pyrex or ceramic bowl as plastic can cause infection in the digits.
