Is there anybody out there that has practical experience woth studbook software for maintaining data on urodela or other non- individualised animals stocks (insects, frogs, ...).
I woould like to use some of this software for being able to follow up the Hynobius species...

Hi Henk,
Have you tried checking with AZA about the software that they use? I know its used to track the various amphibian studbooks. One of the major drawbacks that I am aware of is that it has problems with very large clutch sizes.

The name AZA is unkown to me Ed? so no no contact there (yet). Indeed most studbooks have that individual approach which is not that easy in salamanders. We tend to work with groups...

Sorrily, the European and American Zoos use different software (data formats can be converted though).

It is possible to use breeding groups instead of single breeding pairs (or having to establish the sires for each offspring by genetic fingerprinting) and a cohort approach instead of entering every single offspring.

I planned to implemend a suitable web-based meta-database but this project needs more time than I can currently afford...

Well I was just interested to have something on my laptop and if such things existed then it would spare me from creating something myself...
The idea is that I would like to startup the coverage of all HYNOBIUS species but not without a tool.
