Suction cup/Floating Island fix

I have a couple islands that are supposed to "float" because they are attached by suction cups to the side of the tank...after a while, the suction cups lose their suck. I fixed them by putting styrofoam inside them, that way they can also float around the tank instead of having to stick to the walls.
Now all I need is the wrist strength to pull those useless suction cups out of the holes...

It seems strange they are not solid, the ones I have are and they float perfectly, they stick well too :p
I think maybe you are meant to trap air in the hollow bit in order to make it float, however this is poorly designed, as you are likely to get a build up of bad gases if you leave it like that too long. Be careful bits of polystyrene don't break off and make there way around the tank!
