Suggestions for plants for my tank, please?

I am looking for ideas for my axolotl tank. I am needing low-light, low temp plants. I am really wanting something to be on the bottom and look similar to grass. My idea was java moss on a grid. Has anyone done this?

Hi,

java moss on a grid should work just fine, but most types have an unruly growth pattern, that is very different from grass. If you use 'erect' moss or 'christmas' moss you´ll get a more evenly grass carpet. Alternatively you can cut open marimo-balls and put them onto a grid.

Eleocharis sp. is definitely looking most similar to grass, but requires more lighting than java moss.
There are dwarf forms from Sagittaria subulata in the aquarium trade, that grow quite well under low light.
Both plants are suitable for coldwater.

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
