I noticed today one of my axolotl's eyes is suddenly really sunken compared to the other one. The area around the eye seems swollen and has a faintly red colouration. Can anyone tell me what's wrong? Is this a result of an injury or is it an infection?

Some info;
- I have two axolotls in the tank together that are both the same size/age
- I don't have any gravel in my tank
- My tank is currently undergoing a bacterial bloom and I've been doing 25% water changes daily. The ammonia has not reached over 1.0 ppm.

What's the best way to deal with this? I've attached a photo in case anyone is unsure of what I mean.

It could be an infection in the eye, but I am not sure. It's hard to say what the cause could be. It would be best to have a good vet evaluate it. Otherwise, you can just wait and see. You could also try treating with an antibiotic in the water, like Furan-2. It's totally your call. I hope your axie gets better :happy:
