Our little baby axo swallows air. And then he float on surface. WHAT HECK HE IS DOING??
Why he behave like that? I need fast solutions for this, cause this can't be normal.. Or is it?

In addition to gills, axolotls have lungs. Some axolotls will gulp air at the surface. Sometimes they float because of this, but usually they 'burp' the air out, and sink back to the bottom. Your axolotl may go to the surface for air frequently because there are low levels of dissolved oxygen in the tank. You could try putting in a filter or an air stone to increase the amount of available oxygen in the water.

Thanx a lot. Tomorrow I will buy air stone. We have a filter, but that's too powerful for the baby.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
