Swelling! help please!

Yesterday our axolotl piddy seemed lively but normal. Then last night he didn't eat his dinner- unusual for him. During the night his lower jaw and 'neck' area have swollen up alarmingly. What could this be and what should we do? Help please, i'm terrified

Just curious but any snails, cory cats, or plecos in tthe tank? Just checking to see if he could have tried eating one.

We get some tiny snails here and there.

Possibility of any rocks he tried to swallow?

You'll need the help of someone else, but see if you can gently open the mouth and see if anything is stuck in there. Try using the corner of a credit card to get the mouth open. Be VERY gentle!

This is just a guess. I think he may have tried to eat one of the snails and the shell of the snail may have either got stuck or cut the inside of its mouth and it got infected. The only way to know for sure though is to do what kaysie said and try to open the mouth and see inside.

Sadly Piddy died this afternoon. We got an emergency appointment at the vet and they had a go at treating him but to no avail.

Really shocked 'cause it was all so sudden. He went from being apparently completely normal to dying within 12 hours.

They're doing an autopsy so hopefully we'll hear back from them about what happened to our wee guy
