Hi guys,
I've had two axolotls for the last 18 months. Since I've owned them they've been healthy and as far as I can tell, happy. I've come back from a two week trip and after about a week, I noticed both axies, but one in particular, were having some problems. While away I put some feeder fish into the tank and had a friend feed them crickets every couple of days.
About a week after I came back I noticed two symmetrical nodules above the rear legs of one axolotl, and they later appeared over the rear legs of another. I've noticed this has been a problem for people in the past on these forums, but there was no real outcome from discussions. They will eat their food, but then spit it out. They've been floating at the top of their tank tangled in plants and won't move to the bottom of the tank.
I can't make the nodules appear on my phone camera, but basically they look like whiteheads, pimples, above their rear legs. There is only one above each leg. They are on the exact place on both sides of the axie. The temperature of the tank is a little hot (23 C). I'm going to get the water tested tomorrow, and I've fridged both the axies.
I'm really worried, can anyone provide some advice? Anyone experienced this before? What I suspect is that my friend may have been a little lax in feeding them, and they've thinned down, but that doesn't explain why they're refusing their food now.
