This is the larger one of two T.k larvae that I received today from Mr. Sakuma, an experienced hobbyist in Japan who has successfully bred this species as well as several other Tylototriton species. It's 8 cm long.

Here's the smaller, less-developed one:

Great pics Tim. It will be interesting to watch as they develope and get their adult coloration.

Looks like it won't be long before the first one morphs. Do you have any idea of their ages?

Yeah, that big one does look about to morph. I'll be away for a week from tomorrow, so I'll have to make special arrangements for it before I leave. I also have some morphs and will post some pics of them next chance I get (as well as some answers to your breeding questions on the other thread

I recently went away on a vacation and was worried the larger larvae might morph while I was away, so I left instructions with the pet-sitter. Sure enough, it did morph during by absence, and the pet-sitter did a great job

These pics were taken a few days ago, just 2-3 days after it morphed.

It's larger than any of the other three Sakuma-bred morphs that I received as morphs.

Hey Tim

Beautiful pics!!
What do you feed the young after they have morphed?
Gr. Leo

so what are they eating-and more important-are they eating? how is the appetite? are they shy or aggressive eaters?

Hi Leo and Paris. The young are being fed on waxworm. Two of them are eating well. Two others have eaten, but not as well. The fifth one has just morphed and so has no appetite just yet. In addition to the five morphs, there is one larvae that's yet to morph. They're not so much shy as slow, if you know what I mean. The two that eat well aggressively capture the worms, while the third one will concede to eat only if the worm is delivered to its mouth with appropriate timing.

I corrected my above post to clarify that I had five, not four morphs, after one of my two larvae morphed. Anyway, I have since lost one of the morphs, so I'm back to having four of them. I tried feeding them today. Only one would eat so I'm a bit worried, though some others may also have eaten the worms I left in with them...

This is the last larvae as of today:

It still hasn't morphed:

So cool to see tylototriton pics! Suddenly there seems to be plenty to go around, a year ago I could hardly find one. I think this is the first time I see a tylototriton larvae other than verrucosus. Thanks Tim!´
Btw what other tylos has this Sakuma fellow bred?
You seem to have an endless supply of hardcore Japanese breeders over there Tim. Cheers.

Hi Mark, I don't know right off hand but I have it written down somewhere. It's over 10 weeks old, I think.

Thanks Jesper. He's bred several kinds -- taliangensis, kweichowensis, verrucosus, shanjing -- as well as E.andersoni. I had intended to post pics of some of these breedings before now but I'm backlogged. I'll eventually get around to it though

Hi Tim

Any chance on an update how your morphs are doing? How are you keeping them now?

Great pics!

Thanks Mike.

Mark, well, I'm not doing that great with them. 3 out of 5, to be exact. One of these two larvae has always been cooperative come feeding time, which explains why it's twice the size of the other. Of the two that died, one died very early on for unknown reasons though it had looked to be fine, while with the other, I couldn't get it to eat much, it grew weak, and died over a month ago. The third one that I have left is still a larvae!
