Question: Tank Cooler

That is actually only a controller, so you connect that to a chiller or heater I think. Then the device would use the chiller or heater or achieve the set temperature, I believe.

There are only 2 types of chillers that I know of, the probe and...well I don't know if this is called anything other than a chiller. But one of these: Hailea Aqua Medic 1/2HP Ultrasilent Aquarium Chiller | Guppy's Aquarium Products Online

Here's an example of a probe chiller: CoolWorks Ice Probe with Power Supply

I wouldn't recommend probe chillers because they wouldn't give you the cooling you would want. My uncle is a SW enthusiast and he said the probes are really meant to be put in a canister filter to cool the water down a degree or 2, to off set the heating from the equipment (ie: lights, the filters, etc).

If you didn't wish to spend so much money, using a screen top instead of a hood and pointing a fan or a few down at the tank (at an angle) will help it cool down by evaporation. I can easily keep my tank 5+ degrees lower than my home AC.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
