Hello,

I have started cycling my tank last wednesday using frozen brine shrimp. i used 2 cubes however i took this out after it started to smell and was informed that it was most likely too much. i added one cube and this was two days ago.

I went to test the tank today and the cube i hadput in looked like it had a layer of cotton over the top of it, i had been informed this isnt what i wanted.

So i removed this tongiht and added a quarter of a cube.

I tested the tank and it still was showing levels of less than 0.3ppm.

Can anyone shed any light on what im doing wrong?

I know this can be a lengthy process but i was told that i should start seeing a small rise in the ammonia by now.

I am starting to think i should buy some guppies and try cycling my tank that way.

I also added a fake plant from my Father's fish tank two days ago.

Any help would be appreciated =)

Thanks

Hi it might be worth you gettin some pure ammonia from a hardware store. The guppies are also a good idea and the cycle should take longer than 30 days which is the quarantine period so is fine. The food your putting in needs to rot to produce ammonia, maybe try fish food in a net. Hope some of this helps. Mel
