Tank Ideas, Help Please.

I'm planning on getting two small C. Orientalis (approx. 2 in.). So Far I have a ten gallon tank, gravel, two rocks I found and boiled, and a small plastic log-shaped hideaway. I plan to have 4-5 inches of water the the tank (up to the level of the big rock) and want live plants. I would like any suggestions on the tank including filters, plants, and water level. I included some pictures and I appreciate the help, thanks.

My only recommendation is that you should probably get only one newt so you don't risk anything. If you wanted to keep two I would say, upgrade to a 20 gallon. I'm sure there are other recommendations for you, but I don't know too much about keeping this species other than less newts per tank is always better. I'm sure someone else could help you out aswell.

Two C. orientalis can live just fine in a 10 gallon tank. As for your setup, it will be exceedingly difficult to keep water conditions clean in something like that. I would suggest something more of a floating island. I've used plastic tubs on stilts (made of legos) before. This both maximizes your water area, and keeps water out of the land area. Otherwise you'll have stagnant water under your 'hill', and lots of places for poo and uneaten food to collect.
