1 have a 48inch long x 14inch wide x 12inch deep tank with 3 axies already, would this size be able to handle a 4th axie. at the moment its got about 133litres of water but i can fill it up another foot but dont think i need to.

I don't think it would be a problem. I have 5 in a 48 inch aquarium.

thanks joan, yeah i got a 4th axie from a customer who couldnt look after him, but he fits into the tank okay and they all seem to be getting along,

would 3 be comfortable in a 2 and a half foot or would I be lookin at 3foot or bigger. I have 2 and dont need or really want another, just curious

3 in a 2.5 footer would be the top end of the bell curve, as long as you had small axies. You would have more space to put in appropriate sized hides in a 3 foot tank.

Remember that the key to buying a tank is footprint size, not necessarily water column size. Axies are bottom dwellers, and they won't appreciate the benefits of having a tall tank as opposed to a long tank.
