I just baught a new 10 gallon tank really cheap at my local pet store, as they were clearing out, I thought it would be useful as my 3, small, unknown breed newts are currently in small tanks after a dog related incident with their old tank. I was wondering if that was big enough, or if I would have to buy another one, and any ideas how I could make a lid? It has ledges for a lid to sit on.

Thanks =] I previously made a wooden one but I broke it <:D

A regular screen lid for a 10-gallon tank is pretty cheap, certainly under $10. You can even get hinged ones, which are very convenient, but cost a bit more.

The lid at my pet store had a light and was £24

Screen lids are much cheaper than 'hoods', especially those containing lights. I'd look around at another shop.

I will see if my dad can build me a plastic lid. Thanks for the help.

The thing with non-screen lids is that they decrease ventilation, and can also allow heat to build up (think of how a greenhouse works).

The screen lids we are talking about would be sold in the reptile or small mammal department of the pet store, not the fish area. Hope that helps! A screen lid does keep the water in the tank cooler.
