Tank Super Dirty

Hi! I have a long 20 gallon tank for my axolotl. Everytime his tank filter is bothered in the slightest (turned off, or cartridge removed) a heck of a lot of waste/dirty stuff comes out and spreads all throughout the tank. I do regular water changes and spot clean. How can I get this problem to stop? I hate seeing all the stuff float through the water and I can’t collect it all through water changes and spot cleaning.

the debris is called mulm, this is debris and waste that is breaking down. when you clean the filter make sure to flush the media housing as well to remove any settled mulm/debris.
if you are getting a lot of mulm build up then the filter and media need a clean, make sure to only use old tank water to clean with.
