Temperature help

So my axolotl is named toxic and is refusing food i think The tank is too cold but, I'm not sure how to heat the water up please help, Winter is coming and it gets cold in my room.

Axolotls like cold water, and are perfectly happy as low as 16 degrees celcius!

They can also survive fine in temperatures even lower than that, as low as freezing point a 0 celcius. However, the lower the temperature, the more their metabolism slows down and they will eat less and gross slower/less

I'm going to assert that axolotls never be kept at or near freezing temperatures. Anything below 4C and the animal will begin to experience cellular damage.

This is true, but they would likely do just as well at even lower temperatures. It has been suggested that axolotls could thrive and have a significantly longer life expectancy, if temperatures were kept constant at around 10C. The reasoning, as you mentioned, is a decreased metabolism at the lowered temperature range.

They shouldn't be, but they can be. I recall reading a thread on the forum where a member had axolotls living in an outdoor pond that would freeze over during the winter with no ill effects. I'm not suggesting the should be kept at such low temperatures, but to the OP I wouldn't worry unless the water is that cold (which it wouldn't be in any house)
